Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,January 30, 2023 <br /> Page 11 <br /> of this name change and an opportunity for the City to do a little bit more. He <br /> encouraged that to be a piece of this long term. <br /> Councilmember Schroeder echoed the feedback and indicated she actually has <br /> watched some of the meetings and how frankly the Commissioners engage with <br /> each other, noting there was some great dialogue with tough questions. She stated <br /> it was engaging with the community and getting some advice from people who <br /> could really shed some light on this, as well as looking in on their own group and <br /> talking through what was learned. She thought the process was well done and she <br /> would support the suggestions of the Commission. <br /> Councilmember Strahan indicated she was impressed with the length and hard work <br /> being done on this project. She would defer to the Native communities to see what <br /> would be most appropriate for the acknowledgement on site so it acknowledges <br /> how they relate to the land. She was fully supportive of the proposed name. <br /> Mayor Roe concurred and thought the City might even think about more broadly <br /> throughout the park system acknowledgement both of the history of the Dakota <br /> presence on all of the land in Roseville that ties into the natural spaces and entire <br /> park system. He noted it might be a natural thing to have everywhere as well as the <br /> opportunity for a consistent theme of education. He indicated it is easy to support <br /> a recommendation when the Council knows what has gone into it and sees all of <br /> the work that has been done as well as the superb engagement by the Parks and <br /> Recreation staff and department in terms of making sure that decisions are fully <br /> informed by and influenced by the people involved. <br /> Strahan moved, Etten seconded, approving the Pocahontas Park name change to <br /> Keya Park as well as the recommendation related to education and looking at a land <br /> acknowledgement. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: Etten, Schroeder, Groff, Strahan, and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> Commissioner Matts-Benson reviewed the 2023 Parks and Recreation priorities <br /> with the City Council. <br /> Mayor Roe thanked the Parks Commission for the presentations and looked forward <br /> to future projects coming forward to the City Council. <br /> Vice-Chair Hoag indicated he will be terming out at the end of March and thanked <br /> the City Council for his time on the Parks and Recreation Commission. <br /> d.
