The consultants are
still compiling data

6. U of M Climate Policy Student Group — Walk Friendly Community Project
Sustainability Intern Noelle Bakken introduced Simon, Ava, Ben and Patricija from
the University of Minnesota Climate Policy Student Group who provided a
presentation to the Commission.

Chair Ficek thanked the students for their presentation.

Member Cicha asked about the certification, do you start at bronze or can a city go
straight to silver or gold. r

Simon indicated a city can start at whatever level it has achieved.

Ava explained there is also an honorable mention category for walk friendly
communities. That would be the level below bronze.

Member Luongo asked how the students went about engaging the students at the
high school. She noted the Commission has a vacancy on the Commission for a
Youth Commissioner and has not had success in the past.

Ava explained she was the one behind communicating with the students and she
just had a meeting with them a couple months ago from the RAHS Progressive
Student Committee body and she was able to reach out to them through Instagram,
where she got the most engagement. When she tried to reach out through email that
did not go as well. Instagram was the best method of communication in that sense,
and she was able to meet with a few students and talk about this while it was in the
preliminary stages.
