Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday, May 22, 2023 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Council Comment <br /> Councilmember Groff explained the "T" that stands for Transgender in the <br /> proclamation is extremely important this year considering the bullying that is <br /> happening to that group of people. As the City has made progress in some groups <br /> of people that are represented here, that one is suffering extreme legislation and <br /> things to outlaw their very existence. He indicated he was speaking out on their <br /> behalf <br /> Councilmember Strahan mentioned one of the"A" stands for Asexual as well. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Ayes: Etten, Groff, Strahan, and Roe. <br /> Nays: None. <br /> b. 2023 Essay and Art Contest Participant—Meghan Seeger <br /> Mayor Roe invited Meghan Seeger to read her poem. <br /> HRIEC Commissioner Richard James introduced Ms. Seeger who submitted a <br /> poem to the Essay Contest, the only submission which was picked because the <br /> Commission loved the poem. He asked Ms. Seeger to read her poem. <br /> Ms. Seeger came forward and read her poem. <br /> Mayor Roe and the City Council thanked Ms. Seeger for her poem submittal and <br /> reading it and thought it was a job well done. He noted the HRIEC did not have to <br /> award the only entry just because it was the only one, but the entry was so good <br /> that it deserved the award. <br /> Mayor Roe presented Ms. Seeger with a certificate from the City. <br /> 6. Items Removed from Consent Agenda <br /> 7. Business Items <br /> a. Receive Annual All Departmental Equity Update <br /> Equity and Inclusion Manager Thomas Brooks briefly highlighted this item as <br /> detailed in the Request for Council Action and related attachments dated May 22, <br /> 2023. <br /> Police Chief Scheider reviewed the Police Department programs and initiatives <br /> including participation in Ramsey County Alternative Response Initiative, addition <br /> of Roseville Schools districtwide School Resource Officers and continued events <br /> to build trust with Roseville Area High School students. The Police Department <br /> has also partnered with People's Inc. for an additional mental health social worker, <br /> working with Ramsey County towards a co-response model on mental health calls <br />
