DIVISION 5 <br />METALS <br />05500 - MISCELLANEOUS METALS <br />C. <br />Fasteners: Provide zinc -coated fasteners for exterior use where built <br />into exterior walls. .Select fasteners <br />for type, grade and class required. <br />IR <br />4. <br />FABRICATION <br />A. <br />Form materials to shapes indicated with straight lines, sharp angles, <br />smooth <br />curves Drill or punch holes and smooth edges. Weld permanent <br />shop connections. All welds continuous fillet <br />type. Grind smooth welds <br />that will be exposed. Conceal fastenings where practicable. Punch or <br />drill <br />for temporary field connections and for attachment of work by other <br />trades. Fabricate work in shop in large <br />as assemblies as practical. Meet <br />requirements specified under Structural Steel for fabricating items <br />of <br />structural nature or use. Qualify welding processes and welding operators <br />in accord with AWS "Standard Qualification <br />Procedure". <br />5. <br />SHOP PAINTING <br />A. <br />Remove scale, rust and other deleterious materials before applying shop <br />coat. Clean off heavy rust and loose mill scale in accord with SSPC SP-2 <br />"Hand Tool Cleaning". Remove oil, <br />grease, and similar contaminants ' <br />accord with SSPC SP-1 "Solvent Cleaning". �n <br />B. <br />Immediately after surface preparation, brush or spray on primer in accord <br />with manufacturer's In <br />structions at rate to provide uniform dry film <br />thickness of 2.0 mils. Use painting methods which will result in full <br />coverage of joints, corners, edges and exposed surfaces. <br />C. <br />Retouch in field any scraped, abraded, and unpainted 'surface;,. Painting <br />as specified for shop coats. Painting specified here does not count as a <br />coat for finish painting. <br />D. <br />Prefinished in shop: Black. <br />6. <br />INSTALLATION <br />A. Set metal work level, true to line, plumb. <br />B. Shim and grout as necessary. Weld field connections and grind smooth. <br />Where practical, conceal fastenings. <br />C. Secure metal to wood with lag screws, of adequate size, with appropriate <br />washers. <br />D. Secure metal to concrete with embedded anchors, setting compounds, <br />caulking and sleeves, or setting grout.
