DIVISION 6 <br />WOODS AND PLASTICS <br />06170 - PREFABRICATED WOOD TRUSSES <br />3. APPROVED MANUFACTURERS <br />A. Provide prefabricated roof and floor trusses as indicated on drawings. <br />B. Products shall meet or exceed the design criteria of BOCA, ICBO, SBC, FHA, <br />HUD, TPI, WIC and other applicable codes. <br />4. MATERIALS <br />A. Lumber: <br />1. Only stress -rated lumber in 2x4 and larger sizes, grade marked by a <br />recognized grading association or independent inspection agency, shall <br />be used for top and bottom chords and primary members. <br />2. Web members may be non- stress - rated construction fir or construction <br />hemlock free or excessively large or loose knots and grain slope <br />steeper than 1 in 6. <br />3. Moisture content of stress -rated lumber shall be not less than 7% nor <br />more than 19% at the time of fabrication. <br />B. Connector Plates: <br />1. Steel u g sset plates shall be of commercial quality 20 ga, galvanized <br />sheet steel of domestic manufacture with a light commercial class hot - <br />dipped galvanized corrosion -resistant coating. <br />2. Each individual plate used in the fabrication of the trusses shall be <br />stamped with the patentee's name or trademark, the patent number and <br />the size or part number of the plate. <br />C. Nails: <br />1. Where nails are required through connector plates, they shall be 1- <br />1/2" long with 9/32" head and a 0.12" diameter annular ring shank. <br />2. Trusses up to 36'-8" may use 0.113" diameter, 1-1/2" long fillet heat <br />T-nail; or equivalent nail with common head as a substitute position <br />nail. <br />5. FABRICATION AND WORKMANSHIP <br />A. Trusses shall be manufactured in a well -established, properly equipped <br />plant devoted principally to the fabrication of roof trusses, where <br />periodic nonscheduled, professional inspections have become normal plant <br />procedure. <br />B.
