t
Page 6 - #120-10689
Discussion
The existing fill, swamp deposits and soft alluvial clays are
comprp-gible and should not be relied upon for foundation or floor
slab support. Since the majority of these compressible soils were
encountered along the western portion of the site, it would be
beneficial to construct the proposed building as far as possible to the
east and particularly utilize the southeastern portion of this site.
In our opinion, it should be feasible to support the proposed elderly
housing building on a spread footing foundation system after excavating
the unsuitable soils are+ placing a compacted fill to grade. For a
concrete structure of this size, it should be more economical to design
foundations for an allowable bearing pressure of 5000 psf, versus a
lower bearing pressure even if some additional subcutting of the soft
to medium glacial till soils is required. We have therefore based our
recommendation on preparing the site to support a 5000 psf allowable
soil bearing pressure in the five story area and have also included
recommendations for li;-iter foundation loads in the one story portion
of the building.
SOIL eXPLOR tl
