Groins - Shore protection structures built (usually perpendicular to <br />the shoreline) to trap littoral drift or retard erosion of the shore, <br />provided this activity is regulated and approved under appropriate state <br />laws and rules. <br />n. Breakwaters/Jetties - A rock barrier (can be connected to shore) <br />designed to afcord protection from wave action to shipping and marine <br />structures, or to protect against erosion, or provide harbor protection. <br />The project must be regulated and approved under appropriate state laws and <br />rules. <br />o. Fords.- The placement of gravel or crushed rock, concrete planks (cast - <br />in -place or pre -fabricated), or large concrete slabs on the bed of a river <br />or stream to provide a low-water crossing. The ford must be designed to <br />blend into the existing river or stream bed and be able to withstand <br />continuous inundation without scouring. The ford must be regulated and <br />approved under appropriate state laws and rules. <br />p. Bridge and Culvert Improvement or Replacement - Fill placed in wetlands <br />and waterbodies in conjunction with the improvement or replacement of <br />bridge and culvert crossings for muni^ipal, township, county, state and <br />Federal projects. The replacement of historic bridges must be coordinated <br />with the State Historic Preservation Officer. In addition, the existing <br />structure must be removed, and the replacement must be constructed on the <br />same or similar alignment with hydraulic capacity that is consistent with <br />state and Federal regulations and requirements. The placement of fill <br />material in up to 0.25 acre if wetland is authorized for the widening of <br />the roadway approaches to conform with the width of the new structure. All <br />excess material will be placed at an upland location. The project must be <br />regulated and approved under appropriate state laws and rules including <br />certification from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). This <br />general permit does not authorize projects involving a channel change. <br />q. Access Paths - The placement of fill material in wetlands to gain <br />riparian access to the ordinary high-water mark from adj,�.cent upland areas, <br />provided the fill above the high-water mark does not exceed 15 feet bottom <br />width, 1.5 feet deep, and 150 feet in length. Whenever possible, access <br />paths should be developed on lot -lines to allow for joint use of the path <br />by two riparian applicants. The access path fill must be regulated and <br />approved under appropriate state laws and rules. <br />r. Fill for Shoreline Reclamation and Repair - The placement of fill <br />material in wetlands or waterbodies to repair damage to a shoreline and <br />reclaim lost shoreline from a single storm event or single season of ici <br />damage that occurred within the last 12 months. The project must include a <br />provision for bank stabilization. The project must be regulated and <br />approved under appropriate state laws and rules. <br />lE <br />
