• The Shelard Gr
STS Project No. 94039
March 9, 1987
Page 2
west of the site. The 1974 photograph shows the two build-
ings still in existence. Based on our conversations with
members of the engineering and inspection staff of the City
of Roseville, these buildings are those belonging to Kath
Petroleum. This operation which sold gasoline at retail, as
well as fuel oil and other commodities on a job basis was
known as being "rather sloppy". Trucks and automobiles
parked north of the buildings extend approximately two-thirds
of the distance to Transit Avenue. Several additional, auto-
mobiles and an additional semi -trailer truck, are located
adjacent to Transit. Avenue and west of Rice Street. No above
grade storage tanks are visible. However, several of those
trucks may be tanker trucks based on this photo.
The 1980 photograph shows the site again to be vacant, the
Kath Petroleum buildings having been removed, and the ground
surface apparently regraded or leveled to eliminate all
traces of former activity.
The 1985 photograph shows the Steichens facility at the
northwest quadrant of the intersection of County Road B2 and
Rice Street. We understand from our conversation with you as
well as the City of Roseville engineering department that
petroleum contaminated soils were excavated from this site
prior to the construction of this new building.
Sast;d on the air photo review, it does not appear that there
is a great possibility of contamination of the soils, other
than ivolated areas due to small petroleum spills to the
north of the existing Steichens building. Although we cannot
positively say small areas or zones of contaminated soil
exist, the possibility of extensive areas appears remote.
1 am enclosing for your information a photostatic copy of the
June 1974 air photo of this site.
We hope that this evaluation is of ,assistance to you. if we
may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact us,
very truly yours,
STS CONSU LT ANTS , LTD.
James H. Overtoom, P.E.
Principal Engineer
JHO/yin
Enc.
