MINNESOTA 55101-2140
PHONE:61M2-4400 FAX:612/202.0083
MEMORANDUM
To: Don Ericksen, Dan Stoltz
Copies To: Michael Falk, Wes Hendrickson
Arne Hedberg —
From: Rich Gray
Date: September 15. 1995
Reference: Northwestem College
On -Site Meeting_
Re: PUD Related Issues
Commission No.10438
At J 0:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 13, 1995, representatives from Northwestem College,
(lie City of Roseville, Rice Creek Watershed District, Kraus Anderson Construction, TKDA and
adjacent property owners met at Northwestern College to discuss issues concerning construction
of the new Physical Education Building relative to the approved 1986 Campus PUD. Following
is a summary of items discussed:
1. "How does the current building compare in size and location to the building proposed in
the 1986 PUD?" The back (Lakeside) of the current building is located in approximately
the same location as was proposed in 1986. The height is believed to be about the same
also. The current footprint is much smaller. TKDA will compare current plans with past
plans to verify this. Of particular concern is the height of the building on the lake side and
its relationship to the top of the trees at the top of the hillside.
2. The City suggested that same -scale models of the current building and the 1986 building be
presented at the City Council Meeting to facilitate comparisons.
3. Dale Eklin of the Rice Creek Watershed District reviewed their concerns:
a. The issues surrounding the holding pond near Bumson Research Center (this is a
different pond than the pond just north of the Physical Education Building) have
been resolved and the Watershed District has been satisfied.
b. The smaller washouts along the hillside facing Little Johanna Lake shonld start to
stabilize themselves now that the storm water runoff from above is being directed
away from the hillside and controlled through the new storm water ponding
system. It would be best to minimize disturbances to these areas, i.e. don't try to
fill these areas using heavy equipment. College staff will add some rock by hand
to thes,_ areas.
