Regular City Council Meeting
Monday,June 3, 2024
Page 11
Community Relations Manager Corey Yunke briefly highlighted this item as
detailed in the Request for Council Action and related attachments dated June 3,
2024.
Mr. Peter Leatherman, Morris Leatherman Company, made a presentation to the
City Council. He also reviewed how his company takes random samples of phone
numbers to get the survey people.
Councilmember Schroeder thanked Mr. Leatherman for the presentation. She
asked if in the future the City could get the "norm" information to refer back to
each time as a basis.
Mr. Leatherman explained in the report there is that information for the City to use
and refer back to as a basis.
Mayor Roe thanked Mr. Leatherman for the presentation and for the information.
He noted the City will use the information wisely for decision-making.
d. Consider Adopting an Ordinance Establishing an Equity and Inclusion
Commission
Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson briefly highlighted this item as detailed in
the Request for Council Action and related attachments dated June 3, 2024.
Ms. Olson asked if the Council is comfortable with the name"Equity and Inclusion
Commission"or would something else be preferred.
Councilmember Etten thought the name was fine and wondered if"advisory" was
necessary in the Code.
Ms. Olson explained there was discussion internally about the word"advisory"and
since this Commission is reviewing and providing feedback it can be an advisory
commission but would not necessarily have to provide advice or recommendations.
The Commission could provide review and feedback.
Councilmember Etten thought that would be a reason to get rid of the word
"advisory"in the title.
The Council concurred.
Councilmember Strahan indicated she was comfortable with the name and it may
be a place of empowerment for the Commission. She thought to begin with it might
be best to make it clear and direct.
