2026Capital Improvement Plan
Project/Initiative Summary
Department/Division:Parks
Project/Initiative Title: Applewood Playground
Total Estimated Cost: $175,000
Funding Source: Park Improvement Fund
Annual Operating Budget Impact:
Project/Initiative Description:
Playgrounds installed prior to the Parks and Recreation Renewal Program Replacements in 2012 had an
industry standard expected useful life of 15 years, depending on use. Playgrounds installed after the 2012
Renewal Program have an expected useful life of 20 years.
The Applewood Playground is one of the oldest in the Parks and Recreation system, and due to the density
of housing around the park, it is heavily used. The playground has faded, chipped, and is generally beyond
the end of its useful life. This playground replacement has twice been deferred due to satisfactory
condition, but is now in need of replacement based on both it’s condition and age.
Staff will engage the neighborhood throughout the design process.
Asset Location:
ApplewoodPark
2038 Arona Street

Current Asset Installation Year:
2005
Expected Lifespan for Asset:
20 Years
Qbhf!234!pg!263
