15

people that would like it done, but kept at a smaller width
the existing width, and the middle, which is where I stand.
feel something needs to be done but I would feel that if it
be kept at the same width that would be fine.

or
I
would

MAYOR DEMOS: I inquired this afternoon if this street were
kept at 28 feet, would we retain the trees. We would not because
of the fact that it was built in the wrong place. It's the re-
alignment in its proper place that cost the trees, not the 32 feet
or 28 feet so that would make no difference. If we were to
reconstruct it where it is, then we would have to turn around and
buy the property on that side because we don't own that.

MR. MAHLKE: unfortunately, I wish I lived on the other side
because I have too much to mow now.

MRS. DOROTHY SWANSON, 2855 North Oxford: I think we moved out
here about 17 years ago because of. the beauty and the rustic roads,
and I just can't see those ducks coming up the pavement. I can't
see the pheasants scooting up that pavement with the curbs. I'd
kind of like to keep our country look.

MR. ARTHUR TILLIS, 1021 Judith: I have lived there two
years and we're satisfied the way it is with the bumpy street.
I'd like to give my view against it.

MRS. CAROL TILLIS, 1021 Judith: We were transferred here from
ILlinois almost three years ago, and where we came from we had
nice City streets but unfortunately we had cars parked from one end
of the block to the other and you hardly were even able to get into
your driveway because of the cars being parked, and we were won-
dering if a new street were put in would people take advantage of
parking their cars in the street rather than driveways. We're
in the short block between Oxford and Aglen. Our street is fine as
far as we're concerned, but I understand they would like to do it
because of the other long street, but we are, and I am, opposed
to it.

MRS. MARY BOYD, 2737 North Oxford: Both my husband and I are
against the petition. We feel like everyone else that the trees and
money (inaudible) so I won't go into the same rigamarole, but we're
against it and I wanted to voice our opinion at this hearing.

MR. WARREN CARLSON, 2753 Aglen: We're on Aglen and Judith
and I'm opposed to the improvement of Judith.

MR. STAN THORSTENSON, 2753 North Oxford: I think this is
getting to be a poll of the people on Oxford, for or against. I
know I signed one petition against the street improvement. I'm
not sure whether there was another one after, but I want to be on
record as being against, and I would like to ask the Council how
they decide these things. Is there a majority decision of the
members of people on the street or does the Council sit back and
make the judgment on their own?
