6

it has been improved. It also states that overall it would
improve the appearance of the neighborhood. I don't know how
anybody can feel that it's going to improve the neighborhood,
especially in this particular situation when there is a loss of
27 trees. No way is that going to enhance the appearance of the
neighborhood.

It's also been mentioned that it would probably raise the
value of a home. I called a couple of realtors last week and I
was told that it could possibly enhance the appearance of the
house but it would not raise the value per se of the house.

This is all I have to say for now.

MR. HONCHELL: If I might address a couple of points. As
indicated in the letter there were several points of potential
benefits including snowplowing and sweeping of streets. When
you have a roadway that's irregular as to crown and grade, when
you do the sweeping the brooms go over the area that have de-
pressions and the same in snowplowing you're not as able to do
adequate maintenance as far as the curb back and forth and
irregular widths and as far as being straight. Also, there's no
curb to do your plowing against.

As far as ele maintenance over the years, this road has
received the same level of maintenance as all other roadways of
its type throughout the area, and regardless of whether heads
are shaking in the back, it was seal coated in 1966 and 1974
and is on the current schedule on the north section to be seal
coated in 1981. This is all I can say. This is what the City
records indicate.

MRS. BETTY MC LEAN, 2847 N. Oxford: I state against the
road improvement, first of all for the aesthetic value. We
have a beautiful street. I happen to have four of the trees which
I have been told are not on private property. Nevertheless they
are my trees and I hate to see these trees taken off the street.
Most of all I don't want to see the extra width and extra traffic
we will have going down the street, and last of all, the cost is
going to be very hard to absorb when one's financial situation
changes from the time we signed the original petition.

MR. MICHAEL BETTENDORF, 2751 Oxford: I am also in opposition
to this improvement. My concern is not that great as far as putting
in the new road, but I'm disturbed about widening it and about
Mr. Honchell's remark regarding a four to one slope on the side.
I live on the west side which would mean a 4 to 1 slope and I
don't have any trees in the boulevard area, but I do have a large
tree which was planted some 20 years ago that's probably two or
three feet within the property line and I'm disturbed that when
you put in a 4 to 1 slope you will be filling over the roots. I
