<br />008 <br /> <br />4-20. Chimneys shall not rest upon wooden floors, beams or brackets or <br />be hung from wooden rafters in any building. <br /> <br />4-21. Iron brackets or stirrups attached to wooden construction shall <br />not be used to support chimneys. <br /> <br />4-22. All spaces between chimneys and wooden joists and beams shall be <br />filled with some porous incombustible material. <br /> <br />4-23· Chimneys shall be built at least three (3) feet above flat roofs <br />and two (2) feet above the ridges of peaked roofs. ' <br /> <br />4-24. 111 chimneys shall be properly capped with an approved material. <br /> <br />4-25. Corbeled chimneys must be supported by a wall with a minimum <br />thickness of twelve (12) inches. <br /> <br />4-26. All corbeling shall not prcoject more than six (6) inches from the <br />face of any wall. <br /> <br />4-27. Corbeling whall consist of at least five (5) courses of brick. <br /> <br />4-28. No smoke pipe shall be within twelve (12) inches of any wo~dwork <br />or any wooden lath or plaster partition or ceiling unless the surface <br />above the pipe be protected by metal lath and plaster. ~; <br /> <br />4-29. Where smoke pipes pass through a wooden lath and plaster partition <br />they shall be guarded by galvanized iron ventilated thimbles at least <br />twelve (12) inches larger in diameter than the pipes, or by galvanized <br />iron thimbles built in at least eight (8) inches of brick work o~ other <br />incombustible material. <br /> <br />4-30. No smoke pipe shall pass through any floor or a roof having wooden <br />framework or covering. <br /> <br />4-31. The use of a smoke pipe rather than a chimney shall be prohibited. <br /> <br />4-32. No wooden beams, joists or rafters shall be placed within two (2) <br />inches of the outside faoe of a chimney whether it be for smoke, air or <br />for any other purpose. <br /> <br />~33. No woodwork shall be placed within four (4) inches of the back <br />wall of any fireplace. <br /> <br />4-34. The ends of all wood joists and beams supported by brick walls <br />shall be fire cut. <br /> <br />4-35. The floor construction of all dwelling houses shall be built <br />for a capacity of not less than forty (40) pounds per square foot. <br /> <br />4-36. All floor joists shall have a bearing of not less than four (4) <br />inches at each end on the wall or beam supporting same and no wood <br />floor joists shall be less in size than 2"x8" or be spaced more than <br />sixteen (16) inches on centers. <br />
