-2-

Mrs. John J. Vitek, 2909 North Arona. Indicated support of a button hook design plan on
the west side of Snelling Avenue only.
Mr. Walter Peters who spoke earlier indicated he felt Plan No.1 will just make a freeway
of Lydia Avenue.
Mr. Gordon Hanson who also spoke earlier expressed an interest in knowing some of the rules
of highway design, especially the ability to get off and on a freeway in the same general
area.

Recommendation

The Planning Commission requested that Mr. Dahlgren meet with the State Highway Department
and present the three alternate plans submitted tonight. Once the reaction of the State
Highway Department on these plans is obtained Mr. Dahlgren should once again come before
the Planning Commission.

Planning File 527-69 - Ramsey County Proposed Plans for Improvement of Lexington Avenue
from Larpenteur Avenue to T.H. 36.

Presentation

Mr. Howard Dahlgren explained that Ramsey County would like to improve Lexington Avenue
from Larpenteur Avenue to T.H. 36. The plans submitted by the County indicate that a four
lane highway with a median strip would be proposed. Mr. Dahlgren indicated that he did not
feel a median strip was necessary for the entire length of Lexington Avenue from Larpenteur
to T.H. 36. Perhaps a better design would be a median strip with left turn holding lanes
in the commercial area on Lexington Avenue. Thereby the cost could be held down and the
median strip would not be necessary in the residential area.

Discussion

Mr. Dale Fredrickson, l806 North Lexington Avenue. tvhen is the improvement scheduled for
completion?
Mr. Marvin Sellars, 1784 Millwood. Would there be any trees taken from the residential area
on Lexington Avenue due to this improvement.
Mr. Herb Green, 187l North Lexington Ave. ~hy are four lanes necessary on Lexington Avenue
since once you go into St. Paul through Como Park there is only two lanes.

Recommendation

The Planning Commission instructed Mr. Dahlgren to meet with the Ramsey County Engineering
Department to present some of the ideas - the median strip and the left turn holding laneso
Once he has completed these talks with the County he will appear before the Planning Comm-
ission on the improvement of Lexington Avenue.

Planning File 528.69 .
