<br />-3- <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mr. Klusar, 2599 North Lexington, asked what the developer intended to do regarding <br />the noise which is generated by the traffic on the Lexington-Larpenteur inter- <br />section and which would surely have an effect on the residents of the highrise. <br /> <br />Mr. Kirkam indicated that it was their feeling that the noise would not be a <br />significant problem and that it could easily be handled. <br /> <br />Mr. Tom Johnson, 1855 North Chatsworth, inquired as to how the developer proposed <br />to restrict to the elderly. <br /> <br />Mr. Kirkman indicated that the conditions as outlined by Mr. Pope would prohibit <br />the owner from renting from anyone unless one resident of the apartment lIDit was <br />eligible for Social Security Retirement Benefits. <br /> <br />Mr. Goldberg, Village Engineer, indicated that no problems were anticipated with <br />water pressure in the neighborhood. It was his feeling that the water service in <br />the area was completely adequate to handle the needs of the neighborhood as well as <br />the needs of the highrise building. <br /> <br />Mr. Marvin Sellars, 1784 Millwood, inquired if studies had been conducted which <br />determine if people enj oy living in this type of housing. <br /> <br />Mr. Kirkman indicated that the Governor's Commission on Elderly Study had found <br />that 90% of those residing in similar housing enjoyed it and were satisfied with <br />it as a life style. <br /> <br />Carol Nelson. 759 Ruggles, asked that public transportation and its availability. <br />Mr. Kirkman r.esponded that the closest bus line was four blocks away on Hoyt Avenue. <br /> <br />Bob Johnson, 1740 North Aglen, asked what the developer anticipated as a completion <br />date. <br /> <br />Mr. Kirkman indicated that it could be two years or more before the building <br />would be completed. <br /> <br />Mr. Patrick Durgin, Chairman of the Steering Committee of R.I.O. 715, a citizens <br />group opposed to the application of Knutson, asked if Knutson would manage the <br />property. <br /> <br />Mr. Kirkman stated that the Knutson Management Company would manage the property. <br /> <br />Mr. Tim Quinn, Attorney representing Nick Lebens, owner of Lebens Nursery, stated <br />it was his clients contention that the information supplied previously by Mr. Cox <br />was not totally accurate and that it was his opinion that the effect of the high- <br />rise building on the nursery business of Mr. Lebens would be considerable and, <br />therefore, would have a great impact on the economic well being of Mr. Lebens. He <br />stated that we do not want the project and we are going to fight it. <br /> <br />Mr. Durgin indicated that the 600 people whom he represented would be willing to <br />consider an alternate approach to total opposition to the construction of the pro- <br />j ect if the special use permit were granted by the Village Council on the following <br />conditions. <br />
