-2-

I. There are presently IO firemen within one half mile of the location.
2. The prospects for recruiting of additional firemen from the area is
very good.
3. There is no traffic congestion.
4. It is centered between Rice Street and Dale Street.
S. There is good visibility leaving station in all directions.

Mr. Howard Dahlgren, Village Planner, indicated that the site selected is a good one.
However, he felt there were two problems with the site at Western and County Road B.

1. The site is surrounded on three sides by single family homes and although
fire stations are a permitted use in R-I zoning districts, it is not an
ideal land use in such an area.
2. Highway 36, located to the north, serves as a barrier for movement of
emergency vehicles since Western Avenue does not cross over Highway 36.

Mr. Dahlgren felt that if there were a cross over of 36 at Western it would enhance
the site a great deal.

Discussion

Mr. Ed O'Neill, resident in the neighborhood, indicated that Mr. Dahlgren had expressed
his concerns very eloquently. Mr. LeCuyer indicated that the fire department would most
certainly be willing to consider other sites in the area. He stated that the Fire Depart-
ment did not want to make themselves unwelcome in a neighborhood.

Dorothy Rogers, resident in the area, cOTIUnented that the residents recognize the Fire
Department is a good one, however, she expressed concern that the visibility on County
Road B is very poor.

Mr. Judy O'Neill, 359 County Road B, stated that there is a lot on Ryan and Dale Street
which could be potentially used for a fire station site.

Mr. O'Neill suggested that the fire station could be located at the northeast corner of
County Road B-2 and Dale Street.

Mr. Pope suggested that the hearing be continued until the next meeting and that the
Village staff, planner and fire department personnel meet to discuss all possible sites
prior to that time.

Recommendation

Mr. G. Johnson moved and Mr. Kellett seconded, that the selection of a site for fire
station No.3 be laid over until the regular August Commission meeting. Roll Call,
Ayes: Demos, Eagles>> Kellett, G. Jolmson, V. Johnson, Membrez and Pope. Nays: None.

Planning File 730 - Study of Noise Level at the Intersection of Highways 36-280-35W
(north side)

Presentation

Mr. Gary Orlich of the Minnesota State Highway Department read a report of the noise
readings which they have taken in the area of the northside of Highways 36-280-3SW.
He concluded with the following paragraph:
