<br />-4- <br /> <br />Mr. William Olson indicated that when he purchased the property the realtor <br />indicated the existing garage was an asset to the property. The realtor made <br />no mention that the garage had to be rerroved. He stated that when they planned <br />their storage requirements they included the existing garage as providing sane <br />of the necessary storage. If it had been known that the garage had to be <br />raroved, additional space would have been constructed as part of the house. <br /> <br />Mr. Olson camented that the first he learned aOOut the garage needing to be <br />rerroved was about three ronths ago when Mr. Gordon Beseth of the City Staff asked <br />him when he planned to rarove it. He stated that if he has to mJve the garage, <br />the only place it could be located would be on the far northeast corner of the <br />property. <br /> <br />Mary Jean Olson indicated that when they obtained the building pernri.t for their <br />h.a:re they were not told that the garage had to be rem::>ved. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mr. Rukavina indicated that he was in attendance at the Council Meeting at which <br />the division of lot had been approved. He stated that one of the council rranbers <br />had indicated that the garage should be used for storage, only until the house <br />was built. <br /> <br />Mr. Jim Michels, representing he and his brother, indicated that they own two <br />undeveloped parcels to the north and that when they shCM people these two lots, <br />they have concern regarding all of the buildings on Mr. Olson's property. He <br />asked the Planning Crnmission to delW the request for variance. <br /> <br />Mr. Duane Whaley, 1318 WillCM Circle, irrlicated that he strongly favored the <br />variance request. He stated he did not want a garage in the northeast comer <br />of Mr. Olson's property which would be directly behind his house. He carmented <br />that the existing garage has been there for forty years and he didn I t think. <br />it was unreasonable to leave it there. Every1:x:xly has accepted it when they moved <br />in. Mr. Olson felt it was a very unusual lot and that the garage should be <br />permitted to rerrain. <br /> <br />Mr. Michels agreed that the garage had been there for many years, but he asked <br />the Planning Carcmission to continue with their previous recamrendation that it <br />be rem:>ved. <br /> <br />Mr. Gordon Martin, 1312 Willow Circle, felt that the carmunications regarding the <br />rem::wal of the garage should have been irrproved and asked that the Council be so <br />advised. He stated that it was sad that this had to happen and he was sorry that <br />it had caused scree ill feelings. He indicated that if he had to vote he would <br />vote to leave the gar~because he felt that if theg~agewere roved to the <br />northeast corner of the property that it would only further damage Mr. Whaley I S <br />property. <br /> <br />Mrs. Dressler indicated that it seemed to her the Camlission was being asked to <br />approved a storage shed. <br /> <br />Mr. G. Johnson indicated it appears that Mr. Martin was blaming the City for the <br />canmunication problem but that it apr:;eared to him that the realtor had the <br />responsibility. <br />
