<br />Planning Commission Minutes <br />I~ednesday, October 7, 1981 <br />-3- <br /> <br />Mr. George Merrill, representing the American Legion, indicated the sign would <br />have a readerboard which would be lit from the interior, and would be shut off <br />by an automatic timer at 11:00 p.m. The electrical service for the light would <br />be underground. He stated the Legion was not opposed to the 10' dedication, but <br />was concerned that if the sign was moved further south than the existing sign, <br />it would not be visible. Mr. Dahlgren suggested the Legion check the visibility <br />of the sign if it were moved 6 1/2' to the south and let Mr. North know the <br />results before the Council meeting. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mrs. Cushing indicated she was opposed to a readerboard in a residential area, <br />and asked if there was really a need for such a board. t.1r. r~errill responded <br />that the Legion would be putting notice of meetings and special events on the <br />readerboard. Mr. Matson com~ented there are churches in residential neighbor- <br />hoods that have readerboards, and it did not concern him. t1r. Rukavina stated <br />he was usually opposed to readerboards; however, since this was a non-profit <br />organization, he felt it would be appropriate. Mrs. Dressler indicated she <br />was also opposed to readerboards in residential neighborhoods, but otherwise, <br />she would not be opposed to the sign. <br /> <br />Recorrmen dat ion <br /> <br />Mr. Rukavina moved, and Mr. Mastel seconded, that the Commission recommend <br />approval of the American Legion Post No. 542 request for variance to sign <br />ordinance at 700 County Road C with the condition that 10' of additional <br />right-of-way be dedicated for County Road C, and suggests that the applicant <br />review the possibility of moving the si9n 6 1/2' south of the existing sign <br />for consideration at the Council meeting. Roll call, Ayes: Rukavina, Mastel, <br />Matson, Moeller and Johnson. Nays: Cushing and Dressler. <br /> <br />Planning File 1345 - Richard Moriarity request for rezoning from R-1 to R-2 <br />at 2635 Fi sk. <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Mr. Dahlgren indicated the applicant proposes to rezone the existing single <br />fami ly home on the southwest corner of County Road C and Fi sk from R-l to R-2. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Mr. Johnson asked if a realtor was involved in the sale of the property. t~r. <br />Moriarity indicated a realtor was involved and the realtor had told him that <br />it was a single family home located in single family zoning. Mr. Moriarity <br />commented he has obtained a number of signatures of property owners in the <br />neighborhood approving the rezoning. He stated the neighbor directly to <br />the south and.the one across the street are opposed to the rezoning. Mr. <br />Matson asked lf the home had been used as a duplex before. Mr. Moriarity <br />responded that he did not believe it had. He understood that the basement <br />
