The applicant now proposes to
construct a thirty square foot ground sign ten feet from the property line. A thirty
foot setback is required. Hr. Dahlgren commented this looked like a reasonable
proposal.

Mr. Daubney, attorney representing the applicant, indicated that originally the
building was constructed too close to the property line because of a surveyor error.
He stated the sign would have interior illumination.

Discussion

Letters were received from ~1r. Walter Stoltz, and r.1r. Edward Balck, Hamline House
Condominium owners, opposing the proposed variance.

The proposed sign indicates the address of the Hamline Office Building and a number
to call for leasing information.

r'irs. Dressler indicated she didn't see why a sign should be permitted \'lhich
permanently included leasing information.

Sara, representing Willmus Companies, indicated the reference to leasing information
could be removed.

Recomnendation

Matson moved, Moeller seconded that the Commission recOJ:IUrend approval of Vlillmus
Companies request for variance to sign setback at 2845 Hamline Avenue, with the
following conditions:

1) That the words "Leasing Information 631-1040" be permitted on the sign only
for a period of six months.
2) That the sign be permitted in lieu of a 100 square foot, 25 foot high pylon
sign.

Roll Call, Ayes: Johnson, r.1atson, r-1oeller, Berry, DeBenedet, Dressler and Vliski.

Nays: None.
