Page 2 Discussion Mrs. Johnson asked if the church had considered taking out a loan for the project. Mr. Olson responded they had not because they wanted it to be a project completely funded by special contributions. Mr. Olson indicated the additional parking will easily take care of their parking requirements. Mrs. Dressler asked if the church had considered sharing parking with Concordia Academy. Mr. Olson indicated the congregation had discussed the possibility, but voted against it. There was concern the Academy's parking lot would be too far from the church on cold winter days. Mr. Dahlgren suggested the church could use the available funds to construct a smaller parking lot with concrete curbs. An asphalt curb could be placed on the easterly end of the lot on a temporary basis, so as to more easily permit expansion in the future. Mr. Olson indicated the congregation has decided they want to pursue the parking lot as proposed, and therefore would like the Commission to consider the variance. Mr. DeBenedet indicated that in the year he has been on the Commission, any new or expanded development has been constructed meeting the parking lot requirements. He commented that he could certainly understand the problem of a church raising the funds for such a project. DeBenedet moved that King of Kings Lutheran Church application for variance to curbing requirement at 2330 North Dale be approved, with the following conditions: 1) That all parking lots meet City Code setback requirements. 2) That ten feet of additional right-of-way be dedicated for Dale Street. 3) That all parking lots be brought up to Code at the time the existing church building is expanded. Motion died for lack of a second. Mrs. Johnson stated she preferred to see the church build a lot that meets the Code requirements with the money available. Mrs. Berry expressed her agreement with Mrs. Johnson, and stated she would also like to see the existing lot improved to conform with City Code.
