Roseville Planning Commission Minutes
April 9, 1986

Page 5

Wiski asked Ericksen whether the buffered development was
adquate between the residences. Dr. Ericksen replied that he
thought it was--that sixty-five trees have been planted over time.
Demos pointed out that in one year, eighty trees had to be
removed as a result of Oak Wilt and Dutch Elm. At this point in
time, the landscape plan was discussed in more detail.

Bill Steinworth, 3077 Asbury, stated that he didn't like the
noise in the area, and that the proposed dormitory is too close.
Mr. Steinworth made references to his inability to enjoy his back-
yard based on the inadequacy of the buffer and inadequacy of
noise control.

Mark Wild, 1678 Lydia, stated he was concerned about the exit
on Lydia. Dr. Ericksen proceeded to point out on the map the
proposed traffic control in the area.

Roberta Thompson, 1686 West Lydia, asked what changes would take
place with respect to landscape regarding the driveway, and
wouldn't headlights also be a concern to the adjacent neighbors.
Dr. Ericksen replied that they may have to remove one tree at the
most, but he would prefer to keep the Y intersection in the area,
if this was allowable. Again, Bill Steinworth stated he is still
worried about the screening, and that one could not justify the
trail and the new dorm being so close to the homes. Mr. Johnson
stated there is a possibility that the dorm could be moved or
modified.

Ms. Carlson, 1516 Edgewater, said if there is no proposed growth
at the College, why does it need to build for new dorms? Ericksen
replied that the dorms would not be built if the enrollment wasn't
there. Warren Wildes stated his opposition to deleting part of
the woods to develop the tennis court. Dr. Ericksen replied that
there wasn't really any good place to develop a tennis court on
the site. Mr. Churchwood suggested that more information be
provided on the exits, and that the complaints about noise
necessitate more study.

At this point in the meeting, Dr. Ericksen stated that the south-
east entrance to the facility would not be closed, which conflicted
with previous discussion in the evening, regarding the closing of
that particular exit. Roberta Thompson stated her concern with
respect to accidents in the area. Tom Cathey, 3170 Asbury, asked
for a more detailed explanation of the traffic patterns. Mr.
Dahlgren stated that one of the reasons for moving the traffic to
the southeast was to pull the traffic flow away from the residents
in the other area.

Marlys Graff, 3061 Asbury, asked that the Planning Commissioners
come and look at the site so they get a better understanding of
what's occurring. Wiski replied that all of the Commissioners
look at the sites before the meetings.
