ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION

Paget12

Wednesday, May 3, 1989

Greg Burda from the Centre Companies, stated that security is a
number one issue at their centers and that security officers are
Centre Company employees and are carefully screened. Burda
pointed out that they do have routine patrols but it is important
not to establish a set pattern. They vary the pattern times,
location, and type of patrols so that criminals do not learn the
patterns. Burda stated that they are looking at a camera system
and that they would be very happy to address the concerns raised
by the Planning commission and the Police Department.

Johnson questioned whether there would be patrols. Burda
answered that patrols would continue and that there would be
people added for the ramp.

Johnson asked if Centre Companies would raise the foot candle to
the 5-10 level recommended by the Police Department.

Burda responded that they would raise the foot candle and look at
the location of the lighting to avoid dark spots. Burda pointed
out that the Southdale ramp is a test to find out what works best
and changes will be made if it doesn't work.

Johnson asked if Centre Companies had a problem with the
conditions recommended by the Police Department.

Burda responded no.

Maschka asked for clarification of the exterior building
materials.

McChane responded that they are proposing a precast material
because they are not sure of the materials which will be used on
the new Dayton's store. McChane added that they are willing to
review these materials.

Johnson stated that the Council may not accept a requirement that
the exterior materials come back for additional Planning
Commission review.

DeBenedet questioned why it is difficult to enforce the clean
indoor air act.

Burda responded that they do everything they can including
signage, change of trash receptacles.

DeBenedet pointed out that he has observed security personnel
ignoring violations.

Burda apologized.
