ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION

Paget13

Wednesday, May 3, 1989

DeBenedet questioned handicap accessibility and handicap stall
location.

McChane stated that handicap stalls would be redistributed with
the re-striping so that there are stalls provided by all
entrances to the store.

Stokes asked if the appl icant ' s have consulted with handicap
organizations and had any important design of the center.

Burda responded that they have consulted with handicap
individuals in renovation. Burda added that centers know who the
consumers are and have developed focus groups to identify and
address issues which are brought forth in the proposed designs.

Johnson pointed out that the Planning Commission has identified
issues which need to be addressed in maintaining the quality of
life for the community including handicap access.

DeBenedet asked if automatic doors had been considered.

Burda responded that automatic doors are not being proposed but
the width and swing of the doors provided would allow proper
handicap access.

DeBenedet stated that one power operated door should be provided
at each entrance. McChane responded that automatic doors have
been tried over the years but that there has been a problem and
concern about kids getting hurt in these doors. McChane also
pointed out that there would be a elevator included in the
renovation of the whole Dayton's store so that there would be
accessibility to all floors of the mall.

Nancy Reiter asked if ramps would be used by customers or
employees, why the area between the ramp and the new store is
not enclosed, and whether or not re-striping would mean down
sizing. Reiter added that she was accosted in a ramp in the past
and will go out of her way to not use parking ramps. She stated
that ramps pose a real danger to women.

Johnson thanked Nancy Reiter for her comments and stated that
fears of parking ramps are a real situation.

Burda stated that the ramps would be dedicated to the customers
and pointed out that the center is known for its employee parking
restrictions. Burda added that the walkway is not enclosed but
the situation would be better because more parking would be
protected under the ramp.
