(60 <br />days.) A general discussion ensued. <br /> <br />Member Sandstrom stated that the ordinance should allow this sign some type of <br />special permit. <br /> <br />Member Rengel stated there is no defined hardship. <br /> <br />Member Harms explained this will not set precedent if the code is amended. <br /> <br />Bob Yeriko, Signcrafters, stated this is unique in that it plays to a captive <br />audience and portrays news, weather, sports, time and temperature. It has 2" high <br />red letters on a 12" x 72" board. This has been done at Arbys in West St. Paul and <br />Hopkins and at SuperAmerica. <br /> <br />Comments from the public: None. <br /> <br />Chairman Wietecki closed the hearing. <br /> <br />Chairman Wietecki recommended that the Planning Commission grant variance <br />with conditions including: <br /> <br />1) This sign shall remain specific to this size and shape (12" x 72"). <br />2) It remains visible only within the property to a captive audience or customer. <br /> <br />Chairman Wietecki asked the staff to prepare the language to allow such electric <br />signs to be permitted on site. <br /> <br />Chairman Wietecki moved, seconded by Member Sandstrom to <br />recommend denial of the variance. <br /> <br />Motion: <br /> <br />Roll Call: <br /> <br />Ayes: <br /> <br />Wall, Harms, Rengel, Thomas, Sandstrom, Wietecki <br /> <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Staff was directed to redraft/prepare language for an amendment to the Sign Code. <br /> <br />12 <br />
