Falk summarized the past Planning Commission and City Council actions
and pointed out that the Planning Commission had recommended denial of the variance
and suggested that an ordinance amendment be considered to allow the proposed signage.
The City Council had tabled action on the variance subject to Planning Commission
review of a proposed amended ordinance. Falk summarized the proposed ordinance
amendment.

Member Wall suggested that additional language be included to limit the height of letters
and stated that it is better to be more specific than to be too general. Falk stated that it
would be difficult to determine what an appropriate size restriction would be.

Member Wall indicated his concern about the creative interpretation of the language by
property owners and the precedent it might set along Snelling Avenue.

5
