She <br />explained alternatives and the requested sign variances and setback. <br />Staff found no hardship and found that alternatives do exist. Staff recommended <br />denial. <br />Member E. Cunningham asked how granting a sign variance would affect health <br />and safety? Kim Lee stated that the variance would set a precedent, noting that <br />the Opus/Gateway project of five buildings and 34 acres will have only two <br />ground signs. <br />Chairperson Wietecki explained the background of the sign code. Member <br />Mulder asked if the current sign is at the maximum allowable sign size. (No, the <br />sign could be larger - up to 100 s.f. of sign area). <br />No comments were offered by the applicant or the public. <br />Chairperson Wietecki closed the hearing. <br />Motion: <br /> Member Mulder moved, seconded by Member Wietecki, to recommend <br />City Council denial of the request for a variance to allow the placement of a <br />second ground sign on a corner lot at 2277 Highway 36 West and to reduce the <br />front year setback of said sign to five feet, based on the findings outlined in the <br />staff report of August 13, 1997. <br />On a roll call vote, those voting in favor were: Wietecki, Mulder, Cunninngham, <br />Wilke, Thein; those voting against were: None <br />Chairperson Wietecki stated this project was no different than other buildings in <br />Roseville. <br />Planning File 2937. <br />6d. Request for an interim use permit to allow a secured <br />exterior storage area on property owned by Northern States Power in an <br />L-1 Light Industrial District, located north of county Road C-2 and east of <br />Berger Transfer & Storage, Roseville. <br />Chairperson Wietecki noted for the record that he was a former employee of <br />NSP, but has no interest in this issue at this time. <br />Chairperson Wietecki opened the hearing. Kim Lee presented a summary of the <br />staff report dated August 13, 1997. She noted the proposal is adjacent to Berger <br />Transfer site. She reviewed the proposed use and drainage. The use is to be <br />considered interim in nature. Fencing and landscaping will be installed along all <br />sides except the west side.
