James Christensen is requesting a variance to increase <br />the coverage of the required rear yard to 44.8% for the purpose of <br />constructing a 28' x 36' (1008 sf) garage at 669 Shryer Avenue West. <br />Chair Harms opened the hearing and requested Dennis Welsch provide a review, <br />based on written reports of July 8, 1998, of the request for a variance to increase <br />rear yard coverage at 669 Shryer Avenue West. <br />DennisWelsch advised that this is a through lot with frontage on both Skillman and <br />Shryer; a variance of 446 s.f. variance for building size and a 19.8% lot coverage <br />variance are being requested in order to construct a 28' x 35' garage. He discussed <br />the staff recommendation to deny this request because of size and discussed the <br />suggested alternative for the applicant. <br />Planning Commission members discussed building construction alternatives and <br />questioned the applicant on need and hardship. James Christensen advised he <br />needed level floor space for a shop due to health conditions. If the staff alternative <br />was approved, two 90 degree turns are needed to back boat/truck into garage. The <br />? <br />neighbors garage size is 32' x 28'. Mr. Christensen stated he was trying to get his <br />equipment and materials out of public view. <br />Chair Harms advised letters/calls objecting to this variance request had been <br />received from residents at: 693 W. Skillman, 687 W. Skillman, 679 W. Skillman, <br />657Shryer; no objection: 665 Shryer. <br />KeithHolfeld, 746 Wheaton, supported the variance request. <br />JeffHagested, 651 Skillman, supported the variance indicating he would rather see <br />everything in garage than stored outside. <br />There being no further questions or comments the hearing was closed. <br />Motion: <br /> Member Rhody moved, Member Wilke seconded, to recommend approval <br />12 <br />
