? <br />of James Christensens request for a variance to increase the coverage of the <br />required rear yard from 25% to 44.8% for the purpose of constructing a 28' x 36' <br />detached garage at 669 Shryer Avenue. <br />Motion to amend: <br /> Member Mulder moved, Member Klausing seconded, to amend <br />the original motion by approving a variance for construction of a 28' x 32' <br />accessory building, and direct the staff to work with the applicant for placement of <br />the building. <br />Motion did not pass (3-3). <br />Ayes:Mulder,Wilke,Klausing <br />Nays: Olson, Harms, Rhody <br />Discussion: <br />MemberKlausing stated the building is too large, and sets a bad precedent. He <br />would support a deeper garage. The Commission should look at house in relation <br />to garage; need rational process for approval. <br />MemberMulder agreed with Klausing. <br />MemberRhody stated he opposed the motion to amend, noting that the City has <br />many of these lots; this will not be detrimental to the neighborhood <br />Chair Harms stated that 4' will not make a big difference in looks. The person <br />across street would rather see garage than outdoor storage. <br />Vote on original Motion: <br />Motion carried 5-1 <br />Ayes:Mulder, Olson, Wilke, Harms, Rhody <br />Nays:Klausing <br />6g.Planning File 3059. Suzanne Wild is requesting a variance to increase the <br />width of a commercial curb cut from 36 feet to 55 feet for the purpose of <br />retaining parking spaces at 2960 East Snelling Service Drive. <br />Chair Harms opened the hearing and requested Dennis Welsch provide a review, <br />based on written reports dated July 8, 1998, of the request for a variance to <br />increase the curb cut at 2960 E. Snelling Service Dr.. <br />DennisWelsch advised the request was for a 19' variance in a commercial curb cut; <br />the staff has recommended approval . <br />SusanNosbusch, Manager of Metro Dental Care, 2960 East Snelling Service Drive <br />addressed the rationale for the variance request and advised that the biggest <br />concern in the area is parking. <br />13 <br />
