5.Transit Shelters

Duane Schwartz briefly summarized the history of this agenda item. Craig
Piernot from Outdoor Promotions was in attendance. He spoke about the
process they went through in selecting the proposed shelter sites. Sites are
not definite at this point; changes will probably still occur because of the
permitting process. Deb Bloom pointed out the proposed sites for the
audience.

Schwartz asked Piernot to briefly discuss current Metro Transit shelters
and what the future may be for those shelters. Piernot said that because of
budget shortages, Metro Transit is unable to maintain current shelters or
add new. Outdoor Promotions has been talking to them about assuming
the maintenance functions and will eventually replace current shelters with
new ones so that the design is consistent.

Schwartz stated that the next step for the Commission is to bring forward
any concerns they have about the proposed shelter locations. Schwartz
read the bus shelter ordinance to give the Commission guidelines on what
their role is in this process. The Commission needs to give Outdoor
Promotions their approval to move ahead and then hold public hearings in
the near future.

Piernot said that to begin obtaining official approval they would start out
with one shelter site and get the permits from Roseville and Ramsey
County. Xcel Energy will be involved with the electric service to the
shelter. The public hearings should only be regarding the proposed sites.

Member Anderson asked about US Bench and whether there will be
coexistence of shelters and benches in Roseville. Schwartz said that there
is a different ordinance for benches and that there will be some
coexistence in Roseville.

Piernot stated his company does not put shelters in residential areas unless
the residents specifically ask for them. When they are requested, there is
no advertising put in them.

Member Willenbring moved that they approve the preliminary proposed
shelter locations. Member Marasteanu seconded.

Ayes: 3
Nays: 0
Motion carried

6.Consider Federal Grant Opportunity for County Road B2 Off-road Trail

Deb Bloom gave a presentation on the history of the proposed trail, and
then described the trail location in detail.
