Multi-unit tenant residential property benefiting from street lighting shall <br />be billed or assessed on an equivalent residential unit basis. The total <br />front footage of the multi-unit property shall be divided by the typical <br />front footage of a residential property and rounded to the next whole <br />number to determine the number of assessment units to be assigned to the <br />property . <br />5. Street lighting may be installed in existing residential subdivisions or <br />commercial areas. Such installations will be initiated as detailed in <br />Section IV of this policy. <br />6. Standard residential and commercial streetlight types will be adopted by <br />the City Council. All new street lighting must be consistent with the <br />adopted City standards. Streetlight selection within the adopted standard <br />list of fixtures shall be done through the neighborhood or commercial <br />representative process as detailed in Section IV of this policy. <br />7. Variations to the City standard streetlight types will be allowed only by <br />City Council action. Extra costs associated with variations to the City <br />standard, both installation and 0 & M, will be the responsibility of the <br />benefiting properties. <br />8. All street lighting designs shall consider industry standards, safety, <br />unifollllity. lighting intensity and cost. <br />9. Installation of any telecommunications devices on streetlights shall be <br />subject to the review and approval of the City CounciL <br /> <br />B. Major Roadway Street Lighting <br /> <br />Special funding mechanisms have been established for street lighting along major <br />roadways within the community. The following additional requirements shall, <br />therefore, be applied along Major Roadways. <br /> <br />1. Installation costs for street lighting along maj or roadways may be funded <br />through a combination of partial assesSIl.lents to the adjacent property <br />owners and General Tax. General Tax shall be Used to help finance major <br />roadway street lighting since the streetlights benefit both the adjacent <br />property owners and the traveling public in general. <br />2. 0 & M costs for street lighting along major roadways may be funded <br />through a combination of the Streetlight Utility and General Tax. <br />3. The amount of General Tax participation in the installation and 0 & M <br />costs shall be determined based upon the number oflanes on the roadway. <br />The following is a summary of the share of assessments and General Tax <br />for various roadway designs. <br />
