E. TRANSIT

Roseville is served by Metro Transit, University of Mim1esota Commuter
Service, and the Roseville Circulator System. Ninety percent of the City
residents are within 1/4 mile of a bus route. Figure Trans-6 shows the
existing transit routes in Roseville.

1. Rosedale Transit Hub

The Rosedale Shopping Center serves as a major transit hub for the
Metr"o Council fixed bus routes. The hub was created by the City at
the initiative of the Regional Transit Board (RTB) (this since has
become a part of Metro Transit). Rosedale is a typical tr"ansit hub
facility. It consists of a bus staging area, two passenger facilities,
and a park-and-ride lot.

The Rosedale hub is a focal point for suburban transit services, and
links these services to the two downtowns and to other suburban
areas in the regional transit system. This hub is the 5th busiest in
the Metropolitan Area with 536 bus trips daily (2001).

The RTB granted the City funds to construct the two principal
elements of the Rosedale hub. One shelter is next to Mervyn's and
acts as a transfer point between several routes. Buses are scheduled
to pulse into the facility to allow transfers with little or no waiting.
A smaller shelter is located close to the Snelling/TH 36 interchange.
This hub serves a 300-car park-and-ride lot that is associated with
Metro Transit's peak hour express routes serving downtown
Minneapolis and St. Paul.

A ramp is currently being designed in partnership between
Rosedale and the Metropolitan Council to allow for the needed
expansion of this facility to accommodate Metro Transit's Sector 2
route revisions that increased express bus service to this facility in
2001. The projected expansion would add 200 more spaces to the
lot for park and ride.

2. Metropolitan Council Transit Fixed Routes

Metro Transit runs seven fixed bus routes, including express
service to downtown Minneapolis (Route 260) and downtown St.
Paul (Route 270). The regular local routes provide service from

Roseville Comprehensive Plan - 2003 Update

Transportation - Page 11 of 28
