HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION Tuesday, October 8, 1985 ( The meet~ng was called to order by Chairman Zie1ske at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Mackey, Matts, Oberdorfer, and Zie1ske. Members absent: Bailey, McKenzie, Nackerud, Thomas, Wachter, and Za1k. Others present: Ron Moorse, Staff. I. Business A. The Commission discussed the low level of attendance at Commission meetings. Mackey suggested a proposed agenda should be sent to Commission members one week before each meeting. It was also suggested that members should call if they will not be able to attend a meeting. B. Zielske suggested some sort of gesture of appreciation be given to Don Za1k at the volunteer Commission Banquet. Moorse indicated Zalk will receive a Certificate of Appreciation at the Banquet. C. Oberdorfer described a very positive no-fault grievance training session she attended. ( D. Zielske indicated the Commission needs to develop a overall program for the year's monthly meetings. He indicated Thomas is trying to get the State Human Rights Commissioner to speak at a joint meeting with the surrounding Human Rights Commissions. E. The Commissioners discussed the purpose of the Commission. Mackey indicated she felt the no-fault grievance processing is the major purpose. Zielske indicated he felt that public education is also a major purpose of the Commission. Oberdorfer suggested the Commission needs to educate people about the availability of the no-fault grievance process, because people may perceive the no-fault process as easier and less threatening than going to the State Commission. Mackey indicated she had noticed that the Human Rights Commission information had been dropped from the Roseville Directory Blue Pages. She indicated the Commission should try to get the information back into the directory. Mackey suggested information about the Human Rights Commission should be put on the cable access channel. l
