HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES
Tuesday, June 10, 1986

I .

Call to Order
The meeting was
7:30 p.m.

called to order by Chairperson Thomas at

II.

Roll Call
Members present:

Borden, King, Matts, Oberdorfer, Thomas
and Wachter.

Members absent:

Bailey, Jenkins, McKenzie, and Nackerud.

Others present:

Ron Moorse, Staff.

III. Approval of Minutes
Two amendments were suggested to the May minutes:
A. The statement regarding the reimbursement of a
Commissioner for lunch at a civic organization should
have been included under the Commission's discussion of
budget and expenditures.

B. Bob King will be writing a presentation versus a
curriculum.

Borden moved the minutes be approved with the above two
amendments.

IV. Business
A. The commission discussed Bob King's newspaper column.
King suggested the column should start with the basics--
the Human Rights Act and the City's Policy regarding
human rights.

Oberdorfer suggested several ideas for the column:
1. Investigative reports; for example, what is the
atmosphere in Roseville regarding minorities.
Are there human relations problems; i.e. in stores,
and schools.

2. Ask for input from residents regarding the human
relations climate.

3. Keep the articles short.

It was also suggested that Bob King's picture or a
photo of the whole Commission should go along with
the article.

Brenda indicated she would write a letter to the two
local newspapers regarding the upcoming articles,
introducing the articles as a series. Moorse will
contact the reporters of the local newspapers at the
time the articles are ready for pUblishing.
