Human Rights Commission Minutes
June 10, 1986

Page 2

B. Human Rights Videos
Betchen indicated that a half-hour show would be very
expensive. We may want a fifteen minute video or slide
tape presentation to be used when a Commissioner is
giving a presentation.

Thomas indicated we need to be specific about what our
message should be.

Wachter suggested that other organizations may already
have videos or slide presentations available, such as
the State Human Rights Department or other commissions.

Thomas suggested the Commission should send a letter to
the State, to the New Ulm Commission, and to the
Bloomington Commission asking about copying, renting,
or borrowing any videos they have.

Borden suggested there may be libraries of these types
of materials in the area. We could use those and tag
out a three minute section on the local Commission.

Betchen indicated she is concerned that the Council is
not aware of the Commissions' mission and its plans for
accomplishing its mission. The Commission should make
a presentation to the Council concerning its mission
and its plans.

C. The Commission discussed the redrafted rules of the
Commission. Borden moved that the election of the
Chair and Vice Chair be set for the April meeting
instead of the october meeting. Borden moved the
approval of the rules as revised, with the change in
the election time. Wachter seconded the motion.

D. The Commission discussed the Baha'is Peace Statement of
the May meeting. All members indicated the Statement
was very well done, and much appreciated.

V. Other Business
A. Bob King discussed a concern about a security test that
is being used in retail stores as part of a screening
process for new employees. A person he knows was
terminated because the person failed the security test.
King questioned whether this is a valid test, and
whether it is being used legitimately.

Thomas suggested that if any Commissioners are aware of
additional information about these tests, they should
bring them to the Commission. Thomas indicated she has
requested a copy of the test from the REID organization.

Wachter suggested the Attorney General should be
informed of this test.
