<br />Human Rights Commission Minutes <br />Tuesday, November 12, 1991 <br /> <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />After some discussion on process, the Commission recom- <br />mended that the Essay Committee narrow down the essays <br />to the top fifteen to twenty for the Commissioners' <br />review. A meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 26, <br />to pick the winners. The awards will be presented at <br />the December 9 city Council meeting. <br /> <br />3. Human Riahts Excellence Award <br />The mailing and press release for the Human Rights <br />Excellence Award have been distributed and published. <br />The Commissioners discussed strategies for soliciting <br />nominations. <br /> <br />I'" <br /> <br />B. Grievance Update <br />There were no grievances reported this month. <br /> <br />V. Other Business <br />A. Commission Membership <br />The Commissioners were informed that the city has received <br />four applications for the opening on the Commission. <br />Litsheim recommended that we offer our assistance in the <br />selection process. Borden noted that he had an individual <br />he would like to recommend. <br /> <br />The Commissioners discussed participation on the Commission. <br />As the work of the Commission expands, it is becoming <br />increasingly important that all Commissioners participate in <br />some way. <br /> <br />Norrgard moved, Borden seconded, that the city develop and <br />implement an attendance policy for participation on all its <br />commlssions. Roll Call, Ayes: Norrgard, Borden, Bancroft, <br />Deutsch, and Litsheim. Nays: None. <br /> <br />B. Martin Luther Kina Tribute <br />A decision on a newspaper article, ad, or a handout in honor <br />of Marlin Luther King Jr. was tabled until the December <br />meeting. <br /> <br />VI. Next Meetina <br />The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 9, 1991, at <br />7:00 p.m. The Commissioners will attend the Essay Award presen- <br />tation in the Council Chambers. A brief reception and business <br />meeting will follow. <br /> <br />There will not be a Commission meeting on Tuesday, December 10, <br />1991. <br /> <br />VII. Adiournment <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. <br />
