VI. Update on Open Commission Position. <br />Interviews for the open Human Rights Commission position will <br />be held on March 12, 1993 from 5:20 to 6:30. There are seven <br />applicants for the Human Rights Commission position. <br />VII. Grievances <br />1) Anderson reported on a grievance that she had received <br />from the MDHR. The grievance was brought by a woman <br />against a local business for age discrimination. After <br />discussion with the woman's lawyer and the MDHR, Anderson <br />determined that the grievance was too old to be accepted <br />by the Roseville Human Rights Commission. Therefore, <br />Anderson directed the grievant back to the MDHR. <br />Norrgard stated that the Commission needs some guidelines <br />to determine what the time limits are for accepting <br />grievances. <br />Norrgard made the motion that the Chairperson of the <br />Human Rights Commission authorize a letter to David <br />Beaulieu, Commissioner for the MDHR, asking for <br />information on time limits for accepting grievances. That <br />these time limits be spelled out and adhered to by the <br />MDHR and local human rights commissions. Also, that a <br />copy of this letter be sent to legislators that represent <br />Roseville. It was requested that a. letter in response to <br />our letter be brought to the May meeting. <br />Norrgard moved, Anderson seconded the motion to write a <br />letter to the MDHR. Roll Call: All ayes. <br />2) A woman filed a grievance with the Human Rights <br />Commission against her former employer. She started with <br />the company as a temp. and later became a full-time <br />employee. She stated that while she was a full-time <br />employee she raised some concerns about how the business <br />was run. She was fired for raising these concerns. <br />Deutsch stated that the situation is not covered by State <br />Statutes and that the Commission was unable to help her. <br />3) A woman called because her daughter had been suspended <br />from school. She stated that the principal had harassed <br />the girl and her friend and then suspended them. After <br />initial questioning, Deutsch determined that the <br />suspension could not be categorized as a human rights <br />issue. Therefore, Deutsch advised the woman about other <br />options available to her. <br />VIII.Mediation Training for Commissioners <br />Norrgard suggested sending an RFP to previously contacted <br />organizations asking that they submit a one day proposal on <br />mediation procedures for No-Fault Grievances. Borden <br />suggested that the Commission pick one of the organizations <br />
