<br />6) Human Rights Excellence Award <br />No nominations have been received at this time. <br /> <br />7) Peer Mediation Programs for Schools <br />Michael Jordan presented a letter that will be sent to John Thein, the new school <br />superintendent. The letter offers the Commission's assistance in building a strong <br />peer mediation program. Thelma McKenzie moved, Janet Henquinet seconded to <br />accept the letter with some changes, most notably to informally invite Mr. Thein to an <br />upcoming meeting to discuss other ways that the Commission can be involved. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />8) Statewide Human Rights Essay Contest <br />Thelma McKenzie suggested that the Commission consider administering the <br />statewide essay contest that the League of MN Human Rights Commissions plans to <br />sponsor. Thelma McKenzie distributed scoring sheets that could be used while <br />grading the essays and asked that all Commissioners consider the ease of using the <br />scoring sheets when deciding if Commission should coordinate this event. It was <br />proposed that the Commission would monitor the event in this way: <br />1) The Roseville Commission would develop the question and rules for the <br />contest. <br />2) Each city within the League would distribute the question and rules. <br />3) Each city will grade their own essays and forward the first place winner to the <br />Roseville Commission. <br />4) The Roseville Commission will grade the first place winners and award the <br />winner the Statewide award. <br />The Commission will discuss the proposed schedule and vote on it at the next <br />meeting. <br /> <br />9) Other Business/Announcements <br />The Minnesota Hate Crimes Summit was attended by Jill Bergquist and Marcella <br />Houser. Both stated that it was a valuable experience. Court TV had done some <br />filming at the Summit and two shows will be broadcast. One of the shows deals with <br />teen issues and another talks about bias/hate crimes and responses. The shows <br />are expected to be broadcast June 20 and 21. Marcella Houser has agreed to <br />videotape the shows. <br /> <br />10)Adjournment <br />Eric Egli moved, Janet Gordon seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:28. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />11 )Next Meeting <br />The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July14 at 7:00pm in Roseville City Hall. <br />
