<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, JULY 14,1998 <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Jill Bergquist at 7:10pm. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Issac Afwerke, Jill Bergquist, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric Egli, <br />Jan Gordon, Janet Henquinet, Michael Jordan and Thelma McKenzie. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Mike Hermes and Mike Trainor. <br /> <br />Others Present: Marcella Houser, Youth Representative, and Debbie Zamow, Staff <br />Liaison. <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />Egli moved, McKenzie seconded that the minutes from the June 9 meeting be <br />approved. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4) Cable Program - Promotion/Human Rights Excellence Award <br />Thelma McKenzie reported that the NSCC Special Programming Grant is not <br />necessary for the Commission since most of the resources that the Commission <br />needs are already available at CTV. She reminded Commissioners that classes are <br />being held continuously at CTV and provided an information sheet that is enclosed. <br /> <br />Eric Egli agreed to contact a member of the local "Welcome Wagon" to see if they <br />were interested in including a copy of the Commission brochure with their materials. <br />The brochure will be updated and available for the "Welcome Wagon". <br /> <br />Jill Bergquist and Mike Hermes have agreed to air some short public service <br />announcements on cable in order to bring awareness to human rights. <br /> <br />6) Statewide Human Rights Essay Contest <br />Thelma McKenzie will meet with the League of MN Human Rights Commissions to <br />discuss the rules for the proposed statewide Human Rights Essay Contest. She will <br />present those rules at the next meeting. <br />
