<br />Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes, September 10, 2002 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 8:01 p.m. <br /> <br />Present: Chair Thelma Mckenzie, Karen Vnuk, Mark Chapin, Martha Hardesty, Larry <br />Voeller, Hannah Neprash, Steve Zorn and Philip Crump <br />Absent: Steve Smith and Howard Wagner <br /> <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were approved without changes-Steve Zorn motioned <br />to accept the minutes and Mark Chapin seconded the motion-all approved it. <br /> <br />Thelma McKenzie gave the oath of office to Karen Vnuk and Hannah Neprash <br /> <br />Discussion on the Top Five Goals for 2002-2003 <br /> <br />. Discussed the HRC Brochure-What do we want this to be? It was suggested <br />that we place the Mission Statement of the HRC on the brochure (Steve Zorn's <br />idea). <br />. Martha Hardesty and Steve Zorn agreed to work as a committee on the brochure <br /> <br />Larry Voeller suggested that each committee write and recommend more specific kinds <br />of actions/goals under the more general goal. <br /> <br />. Goal Number 3 on Improving and Increasing education & outreach-Philip <br />Crump and Karen Vnuk agreed to work on this goal as a committee <br /> <br />· Goal Number 4-Provide leadership on Human Rights Issues-it was suggested <br />that this could include an evaluation of the needs of the community--could look <br />at census data, chamber of commerce data-Mark Chapin and Hannah Neprash <br />agreed to work on this goal as a committee. <br /> <br />· Goal Number 5-Build new & strengthen partnership with community and <br />business; Thelma McKenzie and Larry Voeller agreed to work together on this <br />goal as a committee <br /> <br />· It was suggested that Steve Smith and Howard Wagner be invited to work on one <br />of the goals with a committee. <br /> <br />· Thelma McKenzie suggested that after we brainstorm that we need timelines for <br />the goals. <br /> <br />Essay Contest Committee-Philip Crump updated the group that the committee on the <br />essay contest-he, Steve Smith and Howard Wagner met with the schools. He <br />mentioned that the schools talked about including the essay contest more in their <br />curriculum. That they contact the schools; that home schooling cannot be contacted; it <br />
