was suggested that an ad be placed in a local newspaper (the "Review") (Thelma
McKenzie's idea) to solicit essays from 7'h and 8th graders. Steve Zorn mentioned that
there was a Charter school called the Family Academy at Lydia & Hamline. Thelma
McKenzie suggested that possibly the committee (Philip) could contact the editor of the
newspaper and get an article written about the contest to save the cost of an ad.

Commission members received the packet from the League of Human Rights group-a
brochure from the department.

Thelma McKenzie suggested tabling all of this to the essay committee (she mentioned
that we are a week behind schedule). Thelma McKenzie, Hannah Neprash, and Steve
Zorn volunteered to help the essay committee with their work.

Marion Helland will speak at our next meeting with Johanna Eager-the group requested
that Carolyn Curti send out a request for questions to be directed to these speakers in
advance of the meeting and to determine how much of the meeting will include the
speakers and questions and how much with be HRC general business.

Philip Crump moved to adjourn at 9 p.m. This motion was second by Steve Zorn and
approved by all.

Minutes submitted by Mark Chapin
