<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2002 <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />Thelma McKenzie called the meeting to order at 7: I 0 p.m. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Thelma McKenzie, Rita Stanoch, Larry Voeller, Mark Chapin, Phillip Crump, Howard <br />Wagner, Todd Anderson, Stephen Smith, Steve Zorn <br /> <br />Hannah Neprash excused due to illness. <br /> <br />Others Present - Christine Butterfield <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Todd Anderson moved and Phillip Crump seconded the approval of the minutes of <br />January 8, 2002. All Ayes <br /> <br />Martin Luther Kim!: Advertisement 1/21/02 <br />Mark Chapin heard the advertisement on Martin Luther King day. <br /> <br />Reappointment Process <br />Christine Butterfield updated the Commission on the reappointment process for the <br />Commissioners. <br /> <br />Rose of Manv Colors Festival <br />Howard reported that the arts series grant application is underway. Thelma agreed to <br />translate the brochure. Table the Rose of Many Colors. Bring demographer infonnation <br />to the next meeting. <br /> <br />Human Rie:hts Forum II <br />Thelma stated the next Forum is on March 21, 2002. The Commission discussed what <br />the topic might be. A continuation of 10/25/01? Thelma stated the first Forum affected <br />her because she learned the Sikhs hadn't been persecuted and their reaction to the <br />terrorism. Keep the dialogue going and allow the public to interact with Middle Eastern <br />folks in a non-confrontational way to teach families that it is OK. <br /> <br />Larry said if working with the faith community, he would enjoy hearing from different <br />people. The challenge is as we get further from 9/11 how do we keep it on people's radar <br />
