<br />. February 10 - 7:00 p.m. City Council Chambers. Human Rights Commission regular <br />meeting. <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />. February 21 - 1:00-2:00 p.m. Roseville Library. Presentation ofMLK Speech. <br /> <br />. February 23 - 7:00 p.m. City Council Chambers. Recognition of Essay Contest winners <br />followed by informal celebration in the lower level of City Hall. <br /> <br />Holiday Service Project <br /> <br />Larry Voeller, Howard Wagner and Steve Zorn commented that they enjoyed helping at the <br />December Holiday Party for Seniors. Steve Smith, Karen Vnuk and Carolyn Curti also participated. <br />The Senior Center staff was very appreciative of the Commission's assistance. Particlants <br />recommend that the Commission take part in this project next year. It increases the Commission's <br />visibility in the community. Commissioners discussed the possibility of donate a book about human <br />rights for a door prize. Carolyn Curti passed around pictures taken at the event. <br /> <br />Martin Luther King - I Have a Dream Presentation <br /> <br />Commissioners discussed publicity and finalized plans for the February 21 event. Carolyn Curti <br />distributed the bookmark with suggested readings, a flyer and a poster to be distributed to local <br />churches, businesses, civic leaders and others. The Roseville School District could distribute the <br />half page flyer to all students for a cost of approximately $150. Commissioners discussed the ( <br />possibility of the room being too small. However, after some discussion, Commissioners agreed <br />that will unlikely be a problem. <br /> <br />Mark Chapin moved and Larry Voeller seconded a motion to for the Commission to pay for the <br />flyer to be sent students in the Roseville Area Schools. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />At the February 21 event, Karen Vnuk will serve as emcee. She will introduce Mark Taylor who <br />will show a brief video from Eyes on the Prize and then perform the speech. We will then have a <br />brief question and answer period. Karen will then introduce someone from the Library who will tell <br />about Library resources on the Civil Rights Movement and Black History Month. Karen will <br />conclude with a brief description of Human Rights Commission. Commission will provide cookies <br />and punch. <br /> <br />HRC Procedures to Respond to Complaints <br /> <br />At the previous meeting, Commissioners discussed the roles and responsibilities for the Human <br />Rights Commission and how the Commission interacts with City staff and others. Commissioners <br />continued this discussion. <br /> <br />Commissioner Delmore asked what the process is if someone has a complaint. Chair McKenzie <br />explained that a person sends a written complaint the Commission will take action. Generally, a <br />Commissioner(s) investigate the complaint to see if there are grounds for a complaint. Depending ( <br />upon the circumstances, the Commission will refer to the state for action or offer support, <br /> <br />2 <br />
