Roseville Human Rights Commission
Meeting Minutes - December 12, 2006
Page 5of6

.

Commissioner Bosch further discussed the "aMAZE" program, a non-profit organization in
Minneapolis that had a book project and program about family diversity that was available for
elementary-aged children, teaching that each family is different, and addressing socio-economic,
GL TB, and other issues. Commissioner Bosch advised that she had received the contact person for
the program from Ms. Phibbs, and would forward a copy of the diversity packet (booklet) to Chair
Delmore (for her distribution via e-mail to other Commissioners) the information as soon as she
received it. Commissioner Bosch noted that the diversity packet had been purchased by several
elementary schools in Roseville, but that following her contact with several elementary principals
and/or vice principals, the existence or status of the program wasn't apparent or obvious.

Commissioners collectively expressed interest in reviewing the diversity packet prior to committing
the HRC's endorsement.

Commissioner Bosch volunteered her time and education expertise, and as a representative of the
HRC, to be a bridge to the schools and community; and opined the need for discussions to be
reframed to talk about families, rather than sexuality, to make the programming less threatening.

Commissioner Bosch noted that the information was also available on the internet at "aMAZE -
Minneapolis Non-Profit..." and noted that a curriculum packet could also be purchased for a
nominal fee of approximately $50.00.

Commissioner Higbee noted that one oflast year's essay contest winners discussed her life at home
. with two moms.

Commissioner Bosch noted that the issue can get controversial, but the programming was more
broad-based that just GL TB issues; and opined her support and excitement about the curriculum.

Chair Delmore opined that it would be good for the city to stir things up.

Commissioner Bosch, with approval of the HRC by consensus, offered to contact Ann Phibbs, for a
date in the spring when she would be available to present the Allied Training program to the HRC.

Commissioner McGehee suggested taping the presentation for availability for special training for
the Police Department or others.

Commissioner Bosch noted that, as part of her graduate study work, she could incorporate GL TB
training as part of her responsibilities and study.

Commissioner McGehee suggested that the training tape be of someone else, with Commissioner
Bosch simply facilitating discussion, to make the training more palatable to the community.

Commissioner Venters suggested putting the training tape on Cable Channel 15.

Further discussion included possibly utilizing theater groups to tailor programs, with
. Commissioners McGehee and Bosch identifying several groups.
