<br />Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes - January 09, 2007 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />. regarding the recent violence incident between students, as well as names of possible youth <br />representatives to the City's HRC, had not been responded to yet. <br /> <br />Chair Delmore reminded Commissioners that the HRC February meeting would be at the City <br />Council meeting for the Essay Contest presentations and reception (February 12). <br /> <br />Chair Delmore passed around a copy of diversity contacts from other School Districts in the area. <br /> <br />Meeting with Pam Bosch and residents Jim and Muoi Duhl, 2415 Lexington Avenue <br />Chair Delmore advised that she had stopped in at the library while Commissioner Bosch was <br />meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Duhl; and reported that she was doing a great job in coordinating and <br />assessing their information. Chair Delmore apologized on behalf of Commissioner Bosch that she <br />was unable to attend tonight's meeting to update the HRC due to illness. Chair Delmore noted that <br />an update from Commissioner Bosch on this issue would be included on the March agenda. <br /> <br />"Wake UP White America" Flyer Distribution <br />Chair Delmore passed around a flyer provided by Roseville Staff Liaison Carolyn Curti that had <br />apparently been distributed around the metropolitan area recently by the above-referenced group. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />, ~ <br />Chair Delmore advised that she had contacted the group, using their contact information provided <br />on the flyer (in Grove City, MN) and their affiliation with the National Socialist Movement; and <br />summarized their conversation. <br /> <br />After some discussion, it was the Commissioners' consensus that, due to confusion as to where the <br />flyers were actually distributed and difficulty in determining if this was an isolated activity, it <br />would be prudent to not give the material more credibility than it deserves by drawing unnecessary <br />attention to it. <br /> <br />Following additional discussion regarding the HRC's need to publicize their support of Dr. Martin <br />Luther King, Jr. Day, and other tensions apparent in our world, Commissioner Crump volunteered <br />to draft a "Letter to the Editor," and coordinate with Commissioner Venters on language, for <br />publication in the next week. Commissioners concurred to speak out in support of the <br />community's diversity and encouraging fulfillment of Dr. King's vision and alleviation of recent <br />tensions and violent incidents in the School District. <br /> <br />Update on Essay Contest/Meeting in February <br />Considerable discussion was held on the essays; their overall impressive content; the guidelines for <br />the annual contest; interpretation by the Schools and teachers of this writing assignment and how <br />their interest is presented to students. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Chair Delmore and Commissioner McGehee had conferred prior to the meeting regarding one <br />essay that they found troubling as to the negativity of its content, and alerted them to a potential <br />behavior concern that may warrant attention by School staff or a guidance counselor to follow up <br />with the student. <br /> <br />Further discussion was held regarding the role of the HRC, with Commissioner Higbee pointing out <br />
