Under the current ordinance, the fire F ~ marshal is only authorized to issue the permits when directed by City Council action. In every C.~ case, the Council has, with the recommendation ofthe fire marshal, directed the permit to be t'~ issued. The ordinance requires the ~ marshal to visit the site prior to the recommendation for the purpose o f investigating whether the burn can be conducted safely. 4~ The optimal time to burn Prairie Grass areas is limited to a narrow window in the spring ofthe ~`~~ year. On occasion, there have been opportunities missed, or° the ideal time forgone, because the ~: timing o f the request to the next council meeting was not in alignment. ~..~, '~~~~ The proposed change would allow .for burn permits tob.e issued by the ,fire marshal without the •~ .,;~ ~F~ requirement. for City Council to direct the issuing o, f each permit.
