Regular City Council Meeting Monday, August 13, 2007 Page 14 Mr. Anderson noted that this discussion was held and at this time, proposed that the City Council consider action based on that discus- sion. Klausing moved, Pust seconded, authorizing City staff and the City Attorney to move to acquire property, addressed at 1779 Rose Place, consistent with discussions held in closed session. For background information for the public, Mayor Klausing advised that this was private property, in an area experiencing ongoing water runoff problems and flooding during storms, and while it posed no le- gal liability for the City, it posed a problem for homeowners. Mayor Klausing further advised that, for the benefit of the community, it was Council consensus that the City acquire the property for additional water storage. Mayor Klausing noted that the property owner had originally approached the City seeking their interest in purchasing the property; and through negotiations, both parties had reached an agreement to relocate the home and use the vacant property for storm water retention purposes. Presentation -Presentation by Deputy Fire Chief of Training Greg Peterson regarding the National Fire Academy Deputy Fire Chief Greg Peterson provided a brief presentation of his four year participation in the Executive Fire Officer training program at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, MD, which he had recently completed. Mr. Peterson noted that this train- ing program was an extension of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), with courses offered in in- tensive risk and crisis management. Deputy Chief Peterson summarized various courses, attendance at classes for two weeks each of the last four years; and additional re- search projects and report preparation in addition to the intensive course training.
