Regular City Council Meeting <br />Monday, February 11, 2008 <br />Page 3 <br />Roe moved, Pust seconded, authorizing the acceptance of the generous donation <br />from the North Suburban Golden K Kiwanis Club in the amount of $1,500 to al- <br />low the Police Department to purchase an additional Automatic External Defibril- <br />lator (AED) for use iu one of the department's marked squad cars. <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Kough; Pust; Ihlan; Roe; and Klausing. <br />Nays: None. <br />b. Recognize Human Rights Essay Contest Winners <br />Mayor welcomed students and parents, and teachers, and introduced the City's <br />Human Rights Commission (HRC) Chair, Janet Delmore. <br />Ms. Delmore, on a personal note, noted that it was difficult to contain her joy in <br />being reappointed as Chairperson of the HRC; and updated the City Council on <br />the successes of the student she had been mentoring. Ms. Delmore noted this <br />year's question: "Why does discrimination continue today?" Ms. Delmore per- <br />sonally added, "Why does discrimination continue in Roseville today?" <br />Chair Janet Delmore recognized the following students and teachers as part of the <br />Annual HRC Essay Contest, with more than 220 students participating from <br />Roseville Area Middle School and Parkview School. <br /> Student School Teacher <br />First Place Erik Shannon 7 Grade -RAMS Mr. Johnson <br />Second Place Tie Erin Birdsall 8 Grade -Parkview Ms. Schmidt <br />Second Place Tie Hans Zander 8 Grade -Parkview Mr. Ebert <br />Third Place Grace Wilson 7 Grade -RAMS Mr. Lauin er <br />Honorable Mention Linnea Cederber 8 Grade -Parkview Mr. Ebert <br />Honorable Mention Louise Edwards 8 Grade -Parkview Mr. Ebert <br />Honorable Mention Laura Johnson 8 Grade -RAMS Mr. Ueland <br />Third Place winner, Grace Wilson, was not present at this time to read her essay; <br />however Second Place Winners Erin Birdsall and Hans Zander read their essays <br />and were awarded a certificate and monetary award, along with the City's con- <br />gratulations. <br />First Place Winner Erik Shannon read his essay, and received his certificate and <br />monetary award; with his teacher Mr. Johnson recognized, as well as noting that <br />Erik's essay would proceed to the State Human Rights Essay Contest. <br />Honorable Mentions: Linnea Cederberg, Louise Edwards, and Laura Johnson, <br />along with their teachers were recognized, and awarded certificates and monetary <br />awards. <br />
