Business Items (Action Items) <br />a. Consider Community Development Department Request to Perform a City <br />Abatement for Unresolved City Code Violations at 1225 Burke Avenue <br />Permit Coordinator Don Munson briefly reviewed the request for City Abatement, <br />as detailed in the staff report dated July 21, 2008. Mr. Munson noted that the <br />property owner lives at the property, but had not responded to numerous attempts <br />by staff to contact him. Mr. Munson reviewed the code violation history of the <br />property since 2005, initially brought forward by citizen complaint; and the City's <br />previous installation of a section of safety fence around the swimming pool. <br />Roe moved, Ihlan seconded, directing staff to abate public nuisance violations at <br />1225 Burke Avenue by hiring a general contractor to correct existing code viola- <br />tions, as detailed in the Request for Council Action dated July 21, 2008, at an es- <br />timated cost of approximately $2,400.00; and further directing that the property <br />owner be billed for all actual and administrative costs; and if those charges remain <br />unpaid, staff is to recover costs as specified in Minnesota Statute, Section <br />407.07B; with costs to be reported to the City Council following the abatement. <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Roe; Pust; Willmus; Ihlan and Klausing. <br />Nays: None. <br />c. Consider Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) <br />Grant; Adopt a Resolution Allowing Submission of a DEED Redevelopment <br />Grant for the Twin Lakes Redevelopment Area <br />Community Development Director Patrick Trudgeon and Economic Development <br />Associate Jamie Radel reviewed the request for a grant application to the Minne- <br />sota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) for Rede- <br />velopment grant funds of approximately $1 million for eligible activities for <br />AUAR Subarea 1 roadway and infrastructure improvements in the Twin Lakes <br />Redevelopment Area. Ms. Radel noted that the projected total cost of improve- <br />ments was estimated at $3.3 million, and included right-of--way acquisition, con- <br />struction of a segment of Twin Lakes Parkway, construction of Mount Ridge <br />Road, construction of utilities, and signalization of Cleveland Avenue and Twin <br />Lakes Parkway, as detailed in the staff report dated July 21, 2008. <br />Ms. Radel advised that one of the stipulations for this grant, with an application of <br />August 1, 2008, was acknowledgment by the City that matching funds would be <br />
