Discuss Federal and Regional Pathway Grant Opportunities <br />Engineering and Public Works Director Duane Schwartz advised that staff <br />had identified more than the usual number of opportunities for grant <br />solicitation processes; and proceeded to review those opportunities identified <br />to-date. <br />1 r Grant opportunities included: Safe Routes to Schools; Minnesota DNR Trail <br />�� Grant Categories ; Minneapolis Federal Pilot Project; and Federal <br />� 9 �AFETEA; with Mr. Schwartz identifying potential proj ect areas and grant <br />�� filing deadlines. <br />�� <br />�� Potential project areas included County Road B-2 sidewalk; and areas that <br />�� would fill gaps identified by a school district study currently in-process. <br />�� <br />�.� Discussion included how to address issues for roads identified by Ramsey <br />�.� County for mill and overlay, not reconstruction; projected early harnback of <br />�� County Road B-2 from Ramsey County and the road's condition; proposed <br />�� costs of County Road B-2 reconstruction; and federal standards for pathway <br />�� construction and engineering considerations; drainage concerns along <br />�� County Road B-2. <br />�t <br />�� Mayor Klausing expressed his personal support and encouraged staff to <br />33 pursue these grant opportunities along County Road B-2 to eliminate a gap <br />�� in the City's pathway system and address child safety risks along the road. <br />3� <br />�� Councilmember Ihlan concurred with Mayor Klausing that staff should <br />�� pursue available grant monies; however, noted the need to redefine <br />�� opportunities, needs, and gaps in the City's trails and sidewalks in light of <br />��� the recent commun�ty visioning process. <br />�� <br />
